Latadidi, 92, was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital a few days ago. He was diagnosed with corona and pneumonia. He is being treated under the supervision of a specialist doctor. He had also defeated Corona after treatment. His artificial respiration was removed when his condition improved. However, due to his older age, he was kept in the Intensive Care Unit. His health was deteriorating since yesterday and he passed away at around 8.30 am today.

Lata didi started singing at the age of 13. He recorded his first song in 1942. In his career spanning seven decades, he has sung over 30,000 songs in various languages. Popular songs like 'Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai', 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili', 'Ek Radha Ek Meera' and 'Didi Tera Devar Deewana' were composed by Lata Mangeshkar.

Lata Mangeshkar was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1969, the Padma Vibhushan in 1999 and the Bharat Ratna in 2001. He was also awarded the Officer of the Legion of Honour, France's highest civilian award, in 2009. She was the eldest among Meena Khadikar, Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar and Hridaynath Mangeshkar.
