महादेवी वर्मा -महादेवी वर्मा द्वारा रचित इस कहानी में हम महादेवी जी की सेविका की जीवन की कहानी को हम जानेंगे। महादेवी जी की सेविका छोटे कद और दुबला शरीर वाली एक ग्रामीण महिला है।
लेखिका को इसकी सेवा इतनी पसंद आई कि इन्होंने इसका नाम भक्तिन रख दिया। भक्तिन झूसी गांव के एक अहीर की इकलौती बेटी थी। 5 वर्ष की आयु में ही पिता ने उनका विवाह करवा दिया है ।
लेकिन कुछ दिनों के बाद ही उनकी पिता की मृत्यु हो गई और इनकी मुसीबतें आरंभ हो गई। पिता की मृत्यु का समाचार भी भक्तिन को समय पर ना दिया गया । उनकी सौतेली माता धन के लोभी थी ।

जिसके कारण भक्तिन का संबंध अपने मायके से लगभग टूट गया था। इसके बाद इनकी जीवन में दुख बढ़ते ही गये । इनके दो जेठाणिया थी ।
जेठानीयों के यहां पुत्र और भक्तिन के यहां तीन पुत्रियां होने के कारण अक्सर उसे अपनी सास और जेठानीयों के ताने सुनने पड़ते थे। उनके साथ भेदभाव भी होना आरंभ हो गया था। घर का सारा काम भक्तिन और उनकी बेटियां मिलकर करती थी।

कुछ समय बाद उन्होंने अपनी बेटी का विवाह भी करवाया। लेकिन कुछ समय के बाद इनके पति अपने बेटियों को तथा 29 वर्षीय पत्नी को छोड़ कर संसार से अलविदा ले ली ।
अब भक्तिन तथा उनके दो बेटियां खूब मेहनत करने लगी। उनके मेहनत से खेतों में हरियाली छा गई।
भक्तिन को जमीदार नें लगान न अदा करने पर क्या दंड दिया था
यह सभी हरियाली तथा धन दौलत उनके जेठ जेठानीयों को अच्छा नहीं लगता था। उनका भक्तिन के धन पर बुरी नजर थी।
भक्तिन ने अपने दोनों बेटियों का विवाह भी जल्दी करवा दिया और अपने बड़े बेटी के पति यानी जमाई को घर जमाई बना कर रखा। लेकिन दुख इनका साथ छोड़ना नहीं चाहती थी।
अचानक उनके बड़े जमाई की मृत्यु हो गई। फिर उनके जेठ जेठानीयों को भक्ति के धन पर कब्जा करने का मौका मिल गया। क्योंकि भक्ति की सारी धन दौलत एवं खेतों का व्यारा उनके बड़े जमाई ही रखा करते थे ।
उनकी मृत्यु के बाद अब घर का व्यारा अब कोई रखने वाला नहीं था। जिसके कारण जेठ जेठानीयों को भक्ति के धन दौलत पर कब्जा करने का अच्छा मौका प्राप्त हुआ ।
उन्होंने अपने षड्यंत्रओं से भक्तिन की विधवा बेटी के साथ अपने साले का विवाह उनसे करवा दिया। जिससे अब भक्तिन की समस्त धन दौलत अब उनके जेठ जेठानीयों की हो गई ।

अंततः भक्तिन इनके ऊपर कई प्रकार के कर इकट्ठा हो गए। जिसे वह देने में असमर्थ थी। भक्तिन अंत में विवश होकर गांव छोड़कर शहर चली आई।
शहर में वह लेखिका के घर पर काम करती थी। लेखिका के पास आकर भक्तिन के जीवन का चौथा भाग शुरू हो गया। वह सुबह उठकर पूजा पाठ करके लेखिका के लिए रोटी तथा दाल बनाती थी। भक्तिन भोजन पकाने की कला में उस्ताद थी ।
वह भोजन में लेखिका को कहती है कि आप रोटी में सब्जियों की जगह पर आमचूर लाल मिर्च की चटनी या गुड़ का उपयोग कर सकते हैं। जिनसे आपको भोजन काफी अच्छा लगेगा । इन सभी अच्छाइयों के बीच भक्तिन की कुछ बुराइयां भी थी।
वह लेखिका को खुश रखने के लिए झूठ भी बोल देती थी । लेखिका अपने सभी नौकरों को पढ़ाना चाहती थी। लेकिन भक्तिन ने उन सभी के साथ पढ़ने से इनकार कर दिया। वह कहती थी कि मेरा काम लेखिका को खुश रखना है ना की पढ़ाई करना।
भक्ति सिर्फ लेखिका की सेवा करना चाहती थी और वह दूसरे नौकर को भी यही करने के लिए बोलती थी। लेकिन अन्य नौकर ऐसा नहीं कर पाते थे ।

रात भर लेखिका के साथ जागने के बाद भी भक्ति सबसे पहले सुबह उठती थी। एक बार जब सीमा पर युद्ध छिड़ गया तो भक्तिन को उसके बेटी दामाद लेने के लिए आ गए।

How Bhaktin fights with the troubles of his life and is forced to come to the city from the village, all these things we come to know in this article of Mahadevi ji.
Mahadevi Varma - In this story composed by Mahadevi Varma, we will know the life story of Mahadevi Ji's servant. Mahadevi's servant is a rural woman with short stature and lean body. The writer liked his service so much that he named it Bhakti. Bhaktin was the only daughter of an Ahir from Jhusi village. At the age of 5, his father got her married. But his father died after a few days and his troubles started. The news of father's death was also not given to Bhaktin on time. His step mother was greedy for wealth. Because of which Bhaktin's relationship with his maiden was almost severed. After this, the miseries in his life continued to grow. He had two daughters. He had to listen to his mother-in-law and taunts of his daughters-in-law, as he had sons here and Bhaktin had three daughters.
He was also discriminated against. Bhaktin and his daughters used to do all the household work together. The only good news for her in all these sorrows was that her husband loved her dearly. Bhakti was living on the strength of this love. Her husband got the house divided and established a separate settlement. After some time, he also got his daughter married. But after some time, her husband left his daughters and 29-year-old wife and took goodbye from the world.
Now Bhaktin and his two daughters started working very hard. His hard work brought greenery to the fields. All his greenery and wealth did not like his elder brothers. He had a bad eye on Bhaktin's wealth. Bhaktin also got his two daughters married early and kept his elder daughter's husband, ie Jamai, as a housekeeper. But sadness did not want to leave them. Suddenly his elder Jamai died. Then his elders got a chance to capture the wealth of devotion. Because they used to keep all the wealth of devotion and their large deposits of farms. After his death, there was no longer any occupation of the house. Due to which the Jethanis got a good chance to capture the wealth of devotion.
He got his brother-in-law married to his widow daughter of Bhaktin through their conspiracies. With which all the wealth of devotion now became the wealth of his elders. Eventually, Bhaktin collected many types of taxes on them. Which she was unable to give. In the end, Bhaktin finally felt compelled to leave the village and move to the city. In the city, she worked at the writer's house.

At the same time, Bhaktin also asked the author to walk the village. But the writer was not ready to walk. Bhaktin later convinced the writer. The relationship between the writer and the devotee was like a gardener and his flower. Bhaktin served the writer a lot in the village and used to prepare two meals for him in the morning.
Bhaktin was quite afraid of jail. This is why people used to scare the writer by telling him the possibility of jail. At the place where the writer goes to jail, Bhaktin says that she will also go to jail if she does not go, then she will feel humiliated.
